To be eligible to work as a nurse in a particular Territory in Australia you will need to be registered with the Nursing Board of that Territory.
Recognition of Registration
Mutual recognition laws provide for recognition of qualifications across State and Territory boundaries. This means that you could also apply to work in other Australian states or territories with a minimum of paperwork, however payment of separate registration fees with the relevant Nursing Board would be required. Mutual recognition also applies between Australia and New Zealand.
Overseas Nurses
Registered Nurses who have undertaken their initial nursing education in the following countries are eligible for immediate registration if they meet English language competency. They must also meet recency of practice provisions (that is they must have worked as a nurse in the preceeding 5 years):

Registered Nurses who have obtained their initial nursing education from any country not listed above, and all Enrolled Nurses who have been educated overseas, should contact the Nursing Board of the Northern Territory for registration advice.
Migration
Any registered nurse who wishes to migrate to Australia must have their qualifications assessed by the Australian Nursing Council who is authorised under the Migration Act to undertake this assessment on behalf of the Department of Immigration, Migration and Indigenous Affairs.
